Have you ever heard the Warren Buffett quote, "If you don't find a way to make money while you sleep, you will work until you die"?
While some people can and do save up the money they make in their waking hours and then retire, it can be dangerous to rely too heavily on this strategy.
People are living longer than they used to, so a retirement plan that would once have been enough to last for the rest of your life might let you outlive your savings now. And if you have a major crisis during your working years, such as an injury or illness that leaves you unable to work, your income source will disappear... but your bills will not.
Dangerous situations aside, having an income that's dependent on you actively working means if you go on vacation, need to focus on a life situation other than work, or simply get tired and need a break, people who need your coaching won't have it while you're gone, and you'll have to balance your other needs with your need to make money.
But what happens when you have a way to keep helping people and making money when you aren't working?
Imagine if you could go on vacation, knowing that while you're gone, your wisdom, systems and strategies are still helping people, and your bank account is growing insead of shrinking.
Imagine lying on a beach, checking your phone, and seeing yet another person talking about how your program changed their life... while you were soaking up the sun.
If you want that in your business, here are 3 ways life coaches, business coaches, and relationship coaches can keep serving people while you're on vacation or asleep:
1. Offer a pre-recorded program.
If some of your teaching is fairly universally applicable, and doesn’t have to be heavily tailored to each client’s specific situation, you can turn it into audios, videos, or written materials that people can purchase, download, and use without any involvement on your part.
If the strategies you teach DO require a limited amount of customization, you can list the options, methods and strategies that are available to your clients, along with guidelines they can use to choose which of those options are best for them.
2. Train other coaches to use your system to help people.
If you have a clearly defined system, strategy or curriculum, you can teach other people how to share it, so even when you’re on vacation or asleep, your clients can still get live coaching to help them use your methods to create the lives they want.
3. A hybrid model.
If you want to help people in your sleep, but you also want live interaction with your clients and the ability to discuss their situations with them, you can provide a pre-recorded curriculum and supplement it with live Q&A or coaching calls.
That way, you spend far less time sharing the same information over and over, but you can still form a connection with your clients and make sure they have the personalized support and guidance they need.
